Once upon a time there were two design companies. One was known as Image Made, the other DownsDesign. They met one summery afternoon and became fast friends. For the next year they designed, talked, branded, WordPressed, frolicked, and problem solved, helping each other out with the good days and the bad days. Then one day, they realized they could be much more effective together than they were alone. Grain & Mortar was born.
Yep, that’s right folks, Image Made and DownsDesign are joining forces! Neither of us is being bought out or acquired, or anything of that sort. This is simply a mutually beneficial joining of hands that will allow us to handle larger, more complex projects with more resources. Through this merger, all our existing clients will be able to take advantage of our increased manpower and broader range of capabilities.
In other awesome news, we will be moving into a new studio here at the Mastercraft Building. The move will take place in early October, and we will be throwing a bash to celebrate! (Details soon to follow.) We want to encourage all of you to follow us on your social media drug of choice for Grain & Mortar updates and news!

We just recently launched a new website for Utah News Clips! The client wanted the same look as his affiliate website, http://universal-info.com, but needed a new brand for Utah News Clips. We worked with our friends at What Cheer (who created UIS’s website) to help create this similar feel while delivering a unique brand. Check it out at http://utahnewsclips.com!
July 8th, 2011 | Pure Awsomeness, Web Design

Eric Downs from DownsDesign came to us with an idea sometime around the end of May. He wanted to create a website that would tell people where they could park for the College World Series. Not for profit, just something to help people find their way around North Downtown Omaha. The only problem was the CWS was scheduled to start on June 17th. Less than a month away! He asked us to collaborate with him on the project, and we were happy to hop on board. We decided on www.cwsparking.com.
We wanted it to be ultra simple, straightforward, and easy to use and understand. We finished just in time for the series to start. During the CWS we had over 630 unique visits to the site, with no promotion aside from Facebook / Twitter! We will continue the site next year, and hope to add new, helpful features in 2012! – Kristin DeKay

April 27th, 2011 | Identity

Thrive Development Group works with small and mid-size businesses to find their potential through qualitative research, leadership development, social media management, and project management. We were asked to create an identity for them back in March. Our goal was to make research and data seem less stuffy and a little more sexy. We wanted to make sure to stay away from stereotypical styling, so we chose a non-traditional color palette and chose to use “fire” to represent the word “thrive”.
